Road trip Agadir – Marrakech: itinerary, stops and tips
Agadir – Marrakech: which route to take?
Two options to get from Agadir to Marrakech:
- The A7 highway (via Chichaoua): 270 km, about 3h, fast and comfortable, toll ~80 MAD
- The Tizi n'Test road (N10/R203): 280 km, 5-6h, spectacular mountain road through the High Atlas
Our recommendation
Take the highway on the way there to arrive rested in Marrakech, and the Tizi n'Test road on the way back to enjoy the scenery. Best of both worlds.
The A7 highway itinerary
- 1Depart from Agadir — take the highway heading north
- 2Cross the Souss plain — argan tree landscapes as far as the eye can see
- 3Possible stop at Chichaoua (halfway) — coffee, fuel
- 4Arrive in Marrakech from the south gate — head to Jemaa el-Fna
The Tizi n'Test road: for adventurers
The Tizi n'Test pass peaks at 2,100 m altitude. The road is winding, narrow in places, but offers breathtaking panoramas of the High Atlas. Allow 5-6 hours and leave early in the morning.
An SUV (like Dacia Duster) is recommended for the Tizi n'Test road, especially in winter. The road is paved but some sections are narrow with tight turns.
Must-see stops
- Taroudant — the "little Marrakech", ochre walls and authentic souk
- Taliouine — world capital of saffron (cooperative visits)
- Tizi n'Test pass — panoramic viewpoint, memorable photos
- Ouirgane — dam lake, lunch at a mountain inn
- Asni — last village before Marrakech, Saturday market
The Tizi n'Test road is one of the most beautiful roads in Morocco. We stopped at every turn for photos. Unforgettable.
