Pro Taghazout Bay 2026: Morocco's biggest surf competition
From March 22 to 29, 2026, Taghazout Bay — just 20 km north of Agadir — hosted the Pro Taghazout Bay, an official World Surf League (WSL) event rated QS 4,000. That's a major upgrade from the 2025 edition (QS 3,000), meaning more ranking points and higher stakes for surfers aiming for the professional circuit.
Co-sanctioned by WSL Europe and WSL Africa, the event brought together the best surfers from both continents at Anza beach, a versatile beach break just a few kilometers from Taghazout village. The competition served as the 2025/2026 European QS season finale and the penultimate stop on the African circuit.
What is the Qualifying Series (QS)?
The QS is the WSL's qualification pathway. Surfers accumulate points through QS events worldwide. The highest-ranked earn spots in the Challenger Series, then the Championship Tour (the elite world circuit). Only each surfer's best 3 results count, making every event crucial.
Results: who won the Pro Taghazout Bay 2026?
Finals Day on Sunday March 29 delivered a memorable spectacle. A new 3-to-4-foot swell filled the Anza lineup with plenty of scoring opportunities. Both champions hail from the Basque Country, confirming Basque dominance on the European circuit.
🏆 Men's champion: Adur Amatriain
Entering ranked 25th in Europe, Adur Amatriain was the week's biggest surprise. Coached by Basque legend Aritz Aranburu, he eliminated France's Justin Becret in the semifinal before dominating Conor Donegan Dos Santos in the final. His reward: 4,000 QS points, $8,000 and the European QS 2025/2026 title.

🏆 Women's champion: Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri
It's a redemption story. Runner-up in 2025 behind Francisca Veselko, Janire returned with a clear goal. She dominated Alys Barton in the final with 14.83/20, including an excellent 8.00 backhand. The win earns her the WSL Europe QS title and 2026 Challenger Series qualification.
